The Haiti Charity Domain Auction Results

Bakgrundsbild - Wallpaper

The MissDomain.com charity auction for Haiti ended last week. The auction did very well in my opinion, and collected a total of €10 192 with 73 of the donated domains selling!

Top 10 highest sales from the auction

Most domains sold for under €100, 15 domains sold for €100+ with “ij.se” toping the list at €2530. Here is the top 10 sales from the auction…

  • IJ.se – €2350
  • Forsakringar.nu (“Insurances”) – €1100
  • Webhotell.com (“Web host”) – €900
  • Prylar.nu (“Gadgets”) – €850
  • Uthyres.nu (“For Rent”) – €850
  • Skidor.nu (“Skis”) – €800
  • Festlokaler.nu (website PR4) (“Party Premises”) – €325
  • BytJobb.nu (“Switch Work Place”) – €225
  • Idol.nu – €190

My Own Acquisition – “Wallpaper”

As I mentioned in my last post about the Haiti auction, there where some good deals to be made on the mostly Swedish domains. I managed to by one domain myself – “Bakgrundsbild.se” (the Swedish word for “Computer Wallpaper”) – I got a good deal on that name getting it for the starting bid of €20. The keyword has 18 000+ exact local searches/month here in Sweden, and I have some good plans for development of the domain!

.SE and .NU Haiti Charity Auction

Haiti Earthquake

The .SE and .NU is sponsoring a domain name auction, held by Miss Domain, in favor for the victims of the Haiti earthquake. Some nice Swedish, and a few English domains, have been donated!

I just found out about this auction by reading a post on Domain Name News. The auction is organized by Miss Domain, and starts on February 5th (submissions should be in by Feb 4th). The domains submitted so far is mostly Swedish, and the mayor TLD is .SE and .NU, but there is also a few .COM / .NET / .INFO and .EU domains.

Being from Sweden myself, the .SE is of course very interesting. But the .NU is also a very popular TLD here in Sweden, since “Nu” actually is the word for “Now” in Swedish (and I also think that it´s the same in Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands).

Favorite Domains and Translations

Here is some of my favorites from the ones listed right now, along with a English translated words for the ones in Swedish…

  • Flygplan.nu (Aircraft)
  • Forsakringar.nu (The way of typing “Insurance” without using an IDN)
  • Bakgrundsbild.se (Background Image / Computer Wallpaper)
  • Omyndig.se (Under-age)
  • Skidor.nu (Skis)
  • Actually.se

The starting bid for each domain will be €20 and the auction will last 7 days from the starting date.

T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Favorites and Available Alternatives

T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Auction

Rick Latona just released the inventory for the upcoming T.R.A.F.F.I.C. auction. Here is a small list with some of my favorite domains from the auction, as well as some available alternative extensions…

UsbMemoryStick.com – Reserve: $500-$750

I’m a big fan of product domains. Around 60k exact searches/month globally. It´s also priced so that even I could afford it… But the keyword has a lot of competition on Google, 12.500.000 results, so it’ll probably be needing a lot of marketing dollars to be successful!

Asp.com – Reserve: $500.000-$600.000

Even though I’m not a fan of the ASP programing language compared to PHP, this would be a nice domain to own. 670k exact searches/month. With a “little” work, this could be turned into a great resource for ASP and related services.

Sandra.net – Reserve: $5.000-$10.000

Well I gotta be honest, I like this one because it´s the name of my girl friend. I don’t think I would ever spend this much money on her name.net though – I would rather give her something she would understand and like!

CatFood.com - Reserve: $50.000-$75.000

Every cat owner out there needs cat food, and there is a lot of cat owners! 90k exact searches/month in the US. I think this one probably needs to be in the hands of a cat food producer though to make it justice. It could work for someone else as well, but it would need much work and networking.

Available Alternative Domains

I also checked to see what domains had alternative extensions available for hand reg. There are quite many actually, but I didn’t register any of them though. Here is a list of a few of the available domains:

  • UsedXrayMachines.net/.org
  • DrumStools.net/.org
  • FamilyStress.net/.org
  • Gazpachos.net/.org
  • PrisonJobs.org
  • FloorDisplays.net/.org
  • SpicyRecipes.org

So, to sum things up… If anyone would like to send me about $600.000 to my Paypal account, you know it will come to great use! Or if you’d rather spend the money yourself, go to Rick Latonas blog to view the complete inventory.

New Site Launch & Relaunch

Launching and Re-Branding

First of all, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you! A little late I know, but to my excuse I just got back from my Christmas holiday. To make up for the lazy Christmas I’ve had, I’ve been really productive now, launching a new site and relaunching a older one with a new design!

I really love animals, and especially dogs, therefore one of my main niches when it comes to domains and development is the dog niche. It´s not the best paying when it comes to cost per click, and there is often a lot of competing sites on Google. But one of the things I do like is that it´s relatively easy to rank good for exact matching dog breed domains, and the various dog breeds often has good search volume. I currently own a few, it´s not exactly GoldenRetriever.com or any other of the most well known breeds, but still quite nice in my opinion! By the way, if you happen to own a dog breed domain that you wish to sell, don’t hesitate to contact me with your asking price!

One New Site and One Redesigned

Yesterday I launched a site for the Griffon Bruxellois breed. This is a site that I’ve been working on for a couple of days now. I must admit that it´s currently a work in progress though. I’ve designed the site myself, and I think and hope that this is a design that will work great both for visitors and search engines. Since I’ve done it all by myself it´s very easy for me to adjust it to the way I like it. The landing page still needs some attention, and there is more sections to be added as well, but it´s coming in a few days.

Apart from that I also relaunched my Appenzeller Sennenhund site. As you can see it uses the same template as the Griffon site. The reason for that is that I’m building up a small network for my pet sites, but to keep this post short enough I’ll get back to that later!

What do you think of this setup? Feel free to leave your feedback, good or bad, here in the comment section!
